Case Study: Creating a 3D Commercial for a Good Cause
I recently had the opportunity to create a 3D commercial for a friend's business in Lismore, which was affected by floods last year. It was a meaningful project for me, and it also allowed me to improve my skills as a motion designer. In this case study, I'll share the process I followed to create the commercial.
1) Understanding the Client's Goals
The first step was to understand the client's needs and goals. We discussed the message they wanted to convey, the audience they wanted to reach, and the overall tone of the commercial.
2) Conceptualization and Storyboarding
Once I had a clear idea of the client's goals, I began conceptualizing the visuals and developing the storyboards. This involved sketching out rough ideas and iterating on them until we had a solid plan for the commercial.
3) Modeling and Texturing
The next step was to create the 3D models and textures for the commercial. This involved using software like Blender to design and sculpt the characters, objects, and environments that would appear in the commercial.
4) Animation and Rigging
With the models and textures in place, it was time to animate the scenes. This involved rigging the models and using keyframe animation to bring them to life. It also involved adding special effects and other visual elements to enhance the storytelling.
5) Sound Design and Post-Production
Once the animation was complete, I added sound effects, music, and other audio elements to enhance the commercial. I also did some post-production work, such as color grading and compositing, to ensure the final product looked polished and professional.
6) Final Delivery
The last step was to deliver the commercial to the client in the format they needed. We made some minor tweaks and adjustments based on their feedback, and then we were ready to release the commercial to the world.
This project was a great learning experience for me, and it was also rewarding to help a friend's business in the process. I'm excited to see where this new direction takes me as a motion designer, and I'm grateful for the support of everyone who helped me along the way.
